
Kenya basketball referees' body set for elections

The association provides referees to over 1000 games per year at various leagues and competitions in the country.
Kenya Basketball Referees Association (KBRA) will hold its long-overdue elections of new office bearers on Saturday 7 January 2023.
Initially, the election had been scheduled for 3 December but a letter seen by Mozzart Sport confirmed that the exercise was abandoned due to lack of quorum.
Those willing to view for places have been asked to send their applications to the federation's secretary general by Wednesday 4 January.
Fred Awuor, the chairperson of the current office os expected to be on the ballot defending his post but there is little information from stakeholders on whether the whistle blowers will be unopposed.
The current office bearers also include Equity Banks head coach David Maina as the first vice with FIBA referee Erick Omondi serving as the second vice.
The federation's Secretary General Ambrose Kisoi serves in the association in a similar capacity with Carol Ouma as his assistant.
Machakos-based Thomas Mutuku is the outfits treasurer with Abbas Ulaya as his assistant. Daniel Michael, Maurice Omondi and June Oluoch are the Co-opted members.
KBRA has been serving the basketball community in Kenya since 1972. Currently the KBRA is made up to 170 registered members with 95 being actively involved in an officiating capacity in various leagues in the country.

The match officials are entrusted with matches actoss various leagues and institutions including the KBF and all KBF branches classic leagues, KUSA (Kenya University Sports Association) league, KSSSA (Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association) games, KAISSO (Kenya Association International Schools Sports Organization League).
KBRA referees will at all times be nominated to officiate games in the above mentioned Associations and many other games organized in the country.
The Basketball season runs throughout the year and over the course of the season the referees are seen by over 5,000 players ranging in ages from 8-45 years and an estimated over 10,000 spectators.
The new office bearers will be expected to streamline operations of the association.
